Bear went to his new home on Tuesday 8 April and his new owner took him out on the lead and he backed out of his collar and bolted. This was in Oldham Edge OL1. He was seen running by people who tried to catch him which made it worse and he became even more fearful of people.
We were contacted on the following Saturday and asked to help. A lady had been feeding him outside her house so on Monday we set up the trap (we were already very busy with Teddy and a cat that we were helping with so couldn’t get there until then). It couldn’t be put where the lady had been feeding him but was placed nearby. We did a scent trail leading to the trap and waited.
Bear went into the trap at 4.10am on Tuesday 15 April but he was very nervous and only fed for a few seconds. This was not long enough for me to safely activate the closing of the trap door without potentially injuring Bear. It was frustrating watching him on camera but we knew he would be back.
On Tuesday evening, the same day, we restocked the food and within minutes after leaving he showed up. He went into the trap and this time was more at ease and I activated the closing of the trap door. At first he was startled and panicked but within seconds he went back to feeding bless him.
His owners came and we put Bear (while still in the trap as it was far too risky to try to take him out) in my car and took him back to his new home. He has had a bad start in life being neglected but now he is on the road to a happy loving life with his new owners. Welcome to your new happy life Bear.
