Pearl, a foreign rescue dog, was accidently hit by a tennis ball on Lytham St Anne’s beach, on Thursday 21 November 2024 which made her bolt. Owners adopted Pearl over 2 years ago. We were contacted to help and advised owner to sit in her car where she had parked with Pearl and run the engine. Sadly Pearl did not show herself (owner didn’t live there and it was too far for Pearl to make her way home).
Pearl had been chased, searched for and approached by people who were trying to help, the first day she ran. This made Pearl even more frightened and she just kept on running which is to be expected. It was even more of a worry as the roads were very busy and Pearl is blind in one eye. The area was thermal scoped that night by us but she wasn’t seen.
There was a sighting the following morning about half a mile from where she ran. So on Friday night owner sat in her car near to the sighting. A scent trail was done from where she had been seen to the car and live cameras placed. Again though, she didn’t show.
On Saturday 23 November, both owners brought their other dog, Archie, (who is elderly so he couldn’t have been taken there up to now with owner staying in her car overnight and with the freezing temperatures) and walked around on the beach. The rain was horrendous and Archie kept pulling back to go to the car when all of a sudden he started pulling, trying to get up the sand dunes. When he got to the top, owner saw Pearl on the beach, who was being followed by a lady and two dogs who were running after poor Pearl.
He shouted “pearly whirly pearly whirly”and she stopped on the beach and then just ran as fast as she could up the sand dune to greet John and Archie with lots of kisses between the two dogs. Such a happy lovely reunion . Pearl is now fast asleep at home and safe.
We have to keep saying this with each reunion post we do, please, if you see a lost dog don’t follow or approach them. They are dealing with such a lot out there and people trying to catch them doesn’t achieve anything besides frightening the dog even more and putting the dog in danger from the roads etc. If you know of a lost dog please do not search. All of this is counterproductive and endangers the dog. We did try posting our post which states this on a local group but it was declined, as other organisations who help lost pets are not allowed to post on that group, so many people did not get the message to not chase etc. Thankfully it all ended well and Pearl is safely home .
