Welcome home Bubbles
Bubbles, a Miniature Dachshund, went missing on Sunday 18th August whilst being looked after by a relative whilst her owners were away. Our team was contacted on the 21st August 2024 and asked to help.
Bubbles had bolted whilst on a walk when she was spooked by another dog barking nearby.
She had been sighted yesterday in a field running in flight mode approximately 20 minutes away from her home & her owners were beside themselves with worry.
Some time had passed before she was again sighted running through another adjacent field less than a mile away from railway lines.
This was a huge concern as we know that many dogs are drawn to vibrations & lighting of the lines & often sadly lose their lives on the tracks.
We needed to act fast.
Once we had coached Bubbles owners through body language adaptations, we advised them to get to the field and sit silently still.
Her owners sat for a while but there was no sign of her.
We assured them that their scent would be carried through the air & eventually reach her, so it was just a matter of waiting patiently for her to pick it up.
This can take several hours because when lost, dogs rely on scent not sight to recognise their owners & they must be certain and confident enough to approach on their own terms, without any pressure which would cause them to feel threatened & bolt again.
Bubbles owners were absolutely fantastic throughout every step & gratefully took all of our advice on board.
A short while later they caught sight of Bubbles nearby in the field.
Still her owners remained still & resisted any urges to call her name or move towards her!
Bubbles stayed close but hidden whilst she gathered her thoughts & soon picked up enough scent for the “Lightbulb moment” and realisation that it was definitely her family.
She plucked up the courage & headed towards her owner. It was a beautiful reunion.
We are all so relieved to see her safely back home where she belongs.
A huge Thank you to Jasmine & Jake for putting their trust in us & enabling us to guide them through all the necessary steps to bring Bubbles home safely.
